Une partie de la discussion au "colab" de la NASA la semaine dernière portait sur le fait que peu d'échanges mêmes informels avaient lieu avec des membres de l'ESA ou d'autres agences spatiales, et en tant que rare représentant des "grenouilles" et présent régulièrement depuis 4 ans tous les mardis soir (ou presque), je me suis engagé à transmettre cette invitation, dans la langue de Molière, à ceux qui voudront venir discuter "inworld", de sujets d'actualité concernant l'espace (les derniers vols de la navette, les missions vers la lune, vers mars, le développement des initiatives privées), mais aussi, sur un plan plus général, la collaboration au sein des projets, les outils mis en oeuvre pour la développer et les moyens d'améliorer la dynamique de groupe.

Les réunions du colab sont animées par des membre de la NASA et du JPL tous les mardis entre 22h et 23h et elles sont ouvertes à tous les curieux de l'espace. Le site des réunions hebdo se situe dans une des régions Second Life appartenant à la NASA. On peut se connecter avec un client 3D traditionnel (Second Life http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/?lang=en-US ou HippoViewer http://mjm-labs.com/viewer/), ou un client texte (metabolt http://www.metabolt.net/), en attendant pour bientôt le client web 3D (http://www.tipodean.com/web/web-announcement.html) et notre ami Google se fait un plaisir de traduire automatiquement les conversations pour les réfractaires à l'anglais.

Curiosity Scientist : Mondes virtuels, Web 3.0 et SaaA

Venez donc rencontrer Curiosity Scientist, l'hôte d'accueil de la NASA sur mars dans Second Life.

Curiosity est un bot, son avatar est régi par un programme d'intelligence artificielle qui a accès à des informations précises concernant le domaine spatial mais il est également capable d'interagir avec les visiteurs, de répondre à des questions d'ordre général, de bouger et d'interagir avec les rovers et les équipements présent dans la région http://slurl.com/secondlife/VADER%20II/135/118/23

Il peut faire preuve d'un certain humour qui est bien sûr programmé mais qui donne à l'expérience une dimension plus "humaine". L'objectif étant de procurer de l' "entertainment" et par là même de susciter de l'intérêt chez les visiteurs. La NASA a pour objectif de reconquérir le grand public et plus particulièrement les jeunes. Les éléments prometteurs qui se destinaient à une carrière scientifique il y a quelques décennies se dirigent massivement de nos jours vers des carrières dans d'autres secteurs.

Curiosity est donc un peu plus qu'un simple bot, d'un autre niveau que la Lucie de SFR ou les cybertwins dans les billets précédents, mais il n'est pas encore du niveau d'une neuro matrice. Il fait partie des premiers agents logiciels "incarnés" qui interagissent avec leur environnement, même si cet environnement est virtuel.
Ces agents sont qualifié de SaaA, Software as an Assistant, ce qui prête à confusion selon moi, trop proche des acronymes du cloud computing. Un acronyme les rapprochant des AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) aurait plus de sens.

Metacortex (de Maurice G. Dantec) : Work in progress

Le nouveau Dantec vient de sortir. Forcément, je l'ai acheté comme tous les autres, et je voulais en guise de pied de nez, acheter une version e book pour mettre dans mon PRS-600 de chez SONY. Il se trouve que la version électronique est proposée à 22,50 € alors que la version papier est à 25 € (prix unique) auquel certains distributeurs peuvent accorder jusqu'à 5 % de remise. J'ai donc acheté la version papier et tant pis si il faut se casser le dos pour sauver la bibliothèque du Vatican. Je pourrai le faire tourner dans mon cercle familial de lecteurs. J'aime beaucoup les livres de Maurice. Tout d'abord, c'est un ami d'enfance qui m'a offert "les racines du mal" en 2000 quand je lui ai raconté que je m'intéressais au calcul intensif, aux réseaux de neurones et aux agents logiciels sur le web. J'ai eu depuis l'occasion de compléter ma collection.

Ses bouquins font réfléchir, ouvrent des portes. Ce nouvel opus ne fait pas exception. Le roman débute en 2020, au Canada, où l'auteur s'est installé depuis de nombreuses années. Comme toujours, Maurice mêle la pure fiction et les éléments empruntés et déformés de notre monde "moderne". Les premiers chapitres sont dans la veine des premiers chapitres de "Villa Vortex", c'est à dire abordable. Pour finir "Villa Vortex", il fallait être au calme et ouvrir un Google toutes les 3 pages pour se mettre à niveau. Exigeant, fatiguant mais "rewarding" comme disent les britons.

Dans le même temps, je suis l'actualité de ce qu'il est convenu d'appeler, le "cerveau global", ou "global brain" en anglais, et tous les domaines de l'IT de manière générale, du cloud à la nano en passant par la robotique. Bien sûr, ces champs de recherche et d'application sont encore balbutinats, mais la science fiction rentre de plus en plus dans notre quotidien.

Pour en revenir à Dantec, les "Racines du mal" mettent en situation des neuromatrices de carbones. Non pas ce genre là, mais plutôt celles d'IBM. On s'approche de la puissance évoquée par l'auteur. D'autre part, les recherches sur les processeurs quantiques et les processeurs intégrant des cellules vivantes font eux aussi de grands progrès. Dans le même temps, l'utilisation de ces ressources se rationalise, personne n'est obligé d'utiliser Windows 7 avec un processeur quadricore. Chez IBM, visiblement ils sont en forme, même si mon cursus et mon expérience personnelle m'amène à rester circonspect.

Au delà des écrits, Dantec fédère des communautés de lecteur dont l'officielle, ci après, http://thebabylonbabies.wordpress.com/ publiait des éléments intéressants mais n'a apparemment plus d'activité sur son blog. J'ai eu l'occasion de rencontrer pas mal de lecteurs assidus dans mes cercles

professionels ou dans mes pérégrinations virtuelles, notamment dans Second Life. On peut noter que les mondes visités par les protagonistes décrit dans les "Racines du mal" ne sont plus très loin de la réalité.

On trouve les commandes de WII, les mêmes un peu bricolées, des souris 3D, et d'autres éléments très utiles. Bref, encore une fois, la projection de Maurice est très pertinente, et l'analyse de l'implication de l'irruption de ces technologies est intéressante.

Cette semaine, malgré une charge de travail importante, j'ai pu parcourir l'excellent blog de Nova Spivack, et le sujet de la semaine, était comme on dit, "en phase" avec l'actualité. J'ai eu l'occasion, début 2007, de faire l'expérience de faire partie d'un groupe ,un "méta réseau", de passer à un autre niveau, expérience grisante et épuisante que j'ai payée cash mais qui m'a fait avancer ...

Our plans include a display area we would like to dedicate to the role of scientific research and exploration. We can accommodate eight simple displays within a large, open air, octagon kiosk, consisting of a poster, an online indicator, a notecard dispenser and a gift bag. They will stay up from the middle of April through May 30. Depending on traffic and response, we might maintain them longer.

The EnviroLink Network has been helping non-profit organizations take advantage of emerging technologies since 1991. Continuing in that tradition, Envirolink provides space and support to mission-related organizations in the virtual world of Second Life and a respite and learning environment for nearly 500 individuals. Meeting de la NASA mercredi soir

Grosse effervescence ce soir au Colab de la NASA. Le sujet du meeting porte l'exploitation des ressources lunaires. On peut assister à la conférence RL qui est projetée dans le grand amphi SL
de la NASA. Une trentaine d'avatar y participent, de nombreux habitués et un nouveau qui parle beaucoup, notamment de satellites mineurs. Il envisage d'envoyer des satellites forer la lune et en retirer de l'aluminium et d'autres métaux.
Pendant ce temps, la conférence commence à parler d'intéresser les compagnies terrestres à des expéditions, les rovers se transformant, comme lors du paris dakar, en panneau de pub ambulant. Je vois déjà l'autocollant géant "Pepsi, the choice of a new generation" ou "118008". Mon dieu !
Ensuite, ils ont évoqué la possibilité d'utiliser SL pour créer une station lunaire afin d'intéresser le grand public. Si çà vous rappelle quelque chose, faites moi signe ...

Opensim Standalone : Qu'est ce que c'est ?

J'ai trouvé une offre packagée avec un launcher du plus bel effet.

L'interface est détaillée mais la plupart des menus sont des coquilles vides.
Il reste énormément de travail pour arriver à une 1.0.

Afin de rassurer les utilisateurs, le réseau se plante lamentablement au bout de quelques minutes.

Tiens, mon ile devient orangée !

Central Grid : Ca passe pas

A ma grande surprise, la possession de terrain sur Central Grid
est très chère. De toute façon mon accès limité ne permet pas de
s'y connecté. Donc pour moi, çà ne passe pas.
J'ai donc installer OpenSim chez moi et je batis une mini grid de 4 sims.

Second "Second Life" : OpenSim

En attendant le raccordement du Neuf le 15/02 (A la Saint Claude, plus de download !),
je me suis attelé à un chantier prévu de longue date : remettre ma machine en double boot
avec une Ubuntu 64 bits. Jusqu'ici tout va bien à part quelques soucis pour configurer
mon dongle USB Wifi. Je vais effectuer quelques comparatifs entre la version de SL sur XP
et sur Linux.

Second "Second Life"

Fort de la libéralisation du code du client "Second life", Linden Lab envisage maintenant de libérer le code des serveurs, sous la pression de la sortie d'un Google Metaverse et donc de démocratiser la grille de serveurs.
Ma machine est prête, j'attends mon accès FTTH, en attendant, je vais m'occuper de m'installer dans mon nouvel appart, grâce à Ikea planner et Google Sketchup. Je mettrais des exemples dans ce blog, ca devrait être drôle.

"Il était temps de reprendre le chemin", se dit le pèlerin.

Encore de nouvelles rencontres, un des acteurs de CA Pyrénées Gascogne
croisé par hasard, s'est avéré courtois et aimable, et m'a fait visiter son agence, qui permet
de meta pointer vers des formulaires en ligne, très intéressant.
Il m'a également envoyé vers la ferme basque (VP).

Le meeting de la NASA est plein de fous de l'espace comme d'habitude.
Un expert en biotech m'a fait un speech sur la computation génétique.

J'ai retrouvé par hasard mon ancien QG pirate d'Umbra, l'église réaménagée a
été Dresdisée et retapée pour en faire un club concert comme j'aime. 2 avatars
sympatiques m'ont introduit dans ce lieu. Je devrais pouvoir y jouer le 04/04.

Je reprends la route.
